About
What we are About
Women of Purpose was birthed in 2007 by Apostle Annette Higdon to equip incarcerated women with the resources they needed to assist their children while serving their sentence. WOPGM provided the opportunity for them to complete their sentence without the fear and stresses of being away from them. Apostle Annette Higdon served as a women’s chaplain for 7 years with the Grady County Jail ministering and empowering women by the renewal of their minds, love and support and the unchanging word of God.
It was her desire to empower and engage the children left behind often in terrible situations by encouraging and embracing them during these difficult times. I provided school clothes, Christmas and birthday gifts and became a voice for them at school. I also provided financial support for the women incarcerated during Christmas, birthdays and randomly by putting money on their books. I served along with their families and DFCS to bridge the gap that incarceration left between a mother and her children.
As we grew, Apostle Higdon opened the ministry to others and 6 of the original members are still faithfully serving the needs of our families. We begin to see that the needs of our community were not being met so we incorporated other entities to assist those without a voice. We begin educating our community on the importance of voting, completing their census forms, the importance of being vaccinated, serving their community through food and clothing drives, townhall meetings, educational and empowerment sessions, redistricting, social activism and justice.
We provide resources to families struggling to make ends meet, we assist with homelessness by providing blankets during the winter time, shelter and food, we assist single fathers and mothers and we sponsor a nursing home for Christmas every year.
Apostle Higdon has married 3 formerly incarcerated women and have witness numerous return home, reunite with family and become productive citizens. Women of Purpose Global Ministries is very instrumental in our community. We partner with other organizations to serve our community.
